#BanTheBottle - Reusable Water Bottles

Here at Wolven Threads, we are in favor of doing everything you can do in your day-to-day life to reduce your carbon footprint and protect our planet.  We believe that it is our generation's responsibility to help reverse some of the damage that has been done to our earth, that is why we make our garments out of fabric made from recycled bottles.  This week, we are so excited to introduce our weekly segment that will feature sustainability tips and tricks for your day-to-day life.  For our very first post,  I wanted to write about one of he easiest ways to reduce your consumption of plastic, and that's with the purchase of a reusable water bottle.

There are so may reasons why we need to always be using reusable water bottles. First and foremost, it's better for your health and your wallet. Plastic water bottles are often made out of cheap plastic, which sometimes contains BPA, a chemical known to harm the female reproductive system. Most of the better brands of reusable water-bottles are BPA-free, but it is important to make sure they say so on the label. Another reason why reusable water bottles are so great is because they can HIGHLY increase how much water you drink every day. I know it's true for me, when I have my trusty Camelbak at work, I easily drink more than a liter of water a day. And another amazing benefit is that tap water is SO much cheaper than bottled. Bottled water can cost almost 500 times more than tap water! If you live in an area where the tap is unacceptable  (I'm looking at you, Southern California), invest in a water filter or a 3 gallon refillable tank. There are also a number of affordable water delivery services out there for you.

Now, for the best part, style choices! Reusable bottles are pretty trendy these days, which is lucky because we have so many options to choose from! My personal favorite is the trusty Camelbak, which comes in a few styles. If you're traveling abroad, spend a few extra bucks for the filtered version, a handy carbon filter makes water taste great wherever you are. The Camelbak isn't for everyone, some people don't love the nipple, and it doesn't do much to keep your drink hot or cold, but it's been my go-to for more than 10 years.

If you want a trendier option that also keeps your drink hot or cold for hours, my backup is my S'well. There are so many options you can choose from (I'm partial to the metallic ones or the marbled), they are seriously so cute.

And finally, for purists, I love the bkr bottle, created from an old-school material – real glass– with a protective silicone sleeve. These bottles are a little heavy to carry around all day, but the mini size is the perfect size for your purse.

So #treatyourself this Christmas and pick up a water bottle for you or your loved ones! It's the perfect present that is environmentally friendly.
