Salutations Aquarius season! We welcome the sign of the extraterrestrial, the weirdo, the boundary breaker, the innovator, the rebel, the philanthropist, and the container that holds, supports and sustains our collective feels.

In modern astrology Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, the planet of shock, chaos and rebellion but in traditional astrology, it is ruled by Saturn, the planet of discipline, responsibility and hard work. These two energies seem a bit contradictory and I won’t lie, out of all the signs, Aquarius energy was the one that took me the longest to fully comprehend because they are generally described as hippie weirdo activists but none of the Aquarius’ in my life really fit that description. It was only once I learned about the traditional Saturn rulership that it all started to click. This isn’t to say that Aquarius’ don’t march to the beat of their own drum, they certainly do. But their chaos isn’t so random. There is indeed a method to the madness which is truly the best description of unconventional Aquarius energy.

Referred to as the water bearer, it is a common misconception that Aquarius is a water sign but alas, it is an air sign! Aquarius stereotypes describe a sign that is emotionally detached and yet, it is a sign that is concerned with the collective and places the importance of the greater good above the individual. But this is where the term “water bearer” actually makes perfect sense. The element of Air governs intellect, communication and how we process thought and so, Aquarius’ compassion and concern for the collective comes from a place of intellect rather than emotion. This also gives them the emotional detachment that they are known for but as the bearer of water, an element which has historically been associated with feelings and emotions, this detachment is actually incredibly useful for our productive Aquarius, so as to prevent them from being consumed with emotion thus allowing them the ability to hone their focus and not get sidetracked in their quest to transform the collective. They value independence and freedom of thought and action more than anything which makes them natural challengers of convention and the status quo. They are deeply passionate about everyone’s right to total independence which is what sustains their motivation to go against the grain so diligently. They are what I would call, rebels with a cause.

In the tarot, the sign of Aquarius corresponds to The Star card which is a card of newfound hope and inspiration. In the sequence of the cards, it actually follows The Tower card which illustrates that The Star is a welcome reprieve and breath of fresh air following a period of turmoil. This card is one of clarity after the dust has settled and this could not be better suited to our current collective circumstances. Despite the world still being in a state of chaos, I think we can all agree that the shared silver lining is the undeniable illumination of our truest selves and our values when removed from the influences of society. This type of inner clarity also brings forth a renewed sense of purpose as we shed old limiting beliefs and make space for the new and evolved versions of ourselves. However, in order to be ready for the blessings we ask of the universe, we must also do our part to make sure we are meeting the universe half way. What good is receiving a blessing if you’re not in the place to sustain it and appreciate it fully? The Star calls upon us to elevate ourselves so that we may be ready for the abundance that the universe has to give.

These unique and distinct characteristics are expressed through Aquarius’ bold color correspondences of: turquoise (freedom, independence), lavender (inspiration, compassion), and periwinkle (community, support).

Based on these qualities and colors, I have intuitively selected the colors and prints that best encapsulate Aquarius’ radical energy to help us perpetuate and embody this defiant and audacious essence.

Aquarius

Of course this is the most obvious one because duh! Aquarius! Adorned with the whimsical color correspondence of periwinkle and even hints of lavender, to me this stunning print is a physical expression of the element of air but specifically, the fresh, brisk air that is signature of a winter sunrise when the sky is shades of blue and lavender and the world is silent.

Aqua Aura

What I love most about this print is how electric it is! Aquarius’ color correspondence of turquoise is done justice with the support of the white highlights, giving it an almost glowing and iridescent quality. If I could chose an outfit to be abducted by aliens in, this would definitely be it.

Amalfi

Aquarius are nothing if not bold and what is more bold than this dynamic print? When we think blue, we typically think of it as a color that falls under the cool category. However, turquoise is actually a warm shade of an otherwise cool color which perfectly illustrates Aquarius’ juxtaposed characteristics of being simultaneously detached and compassionate. Additionally, red is a color of bold action and leadership which are characteristics that supports Aquarius’ mission of challenging conventions.

Juniper

This gorgeous and inspiring shade of periwinkle is one of comfort. As a sign that is so much about community and the collective, this color reminds us that as much as the individual can accomplish and as capable as one may be, when we stand together, there is nothing that we cannot do.

Lavender

As a color, lavender represents imagination and compassion, both of which are characteristics that altruistic Aquarius is well acquainted with. Aquarius’ capacity for intellectualism is the backbone of their subsequent innovative thinking and innovation is rooted in the ability to harness imagination and use creative solutions to solve real world problems.

Onyx

Despite all of Aquarius’ qualities of rebelliousness, unconventionality and forward-thinking, its traditional planetary ruler is Saturn, which corresponds to the color black, who’s influence on Aquarius is defined by its methodical capability to take a far out idea and break it down into small, attainable and accomplishable steps.

Chai

When it comes to modalities, I always say that the fixed modality inherently has an earthy quality to it and when I think of earth I think of rich browns and rich greens, both of which are housed in this gorgeous and grounding color.

May this season bring us the creativity that comes from mental clarity. May this season inspire us to lead by example through embracing our radical authenticity. May this season remind us that taking care of our communities in turn means taking care of ourselves. May this season give us purpose and the determination needed to align with it. And may this season connect us with our sacred individuality and remind us to cherish our differences while remembering that we are all more alike than we are different. So It Is.
