As the year comes to a close, the impending winter solstice ushers in the longest night of the year and subsequently propels us forward towards longer days as we slowly begin to welcome back the Sun.

The solstice, which this year falls on Tuesday, December 21st, also marks the first day of winter as well as the first day of Capricorn season. It is a day of potent energy that when harnessed with intention, allows us the ability to fully lean into the winter seasons themes of rest and introspection.

Many of us are familiar with the very real effects of seasonal depression, particularly if you live somewhere that endures the entire spectrum of winter hardships. Bringing awareness to the inevitable energetic shifts of the year allow us to flow with these currents instead of being resistant to them. And by no means am I saying that any of this is a cure, but from personal experience, it can definitely help.

Energetically, this season is about rest, hibernation and recalibration as is observable in the natural world and the best thing we can do is align ourselves with these inevitable natural cycles. Therefore, this season should be of guilt-free and intentional rest while rejecting the capitalism that we’ve internalized that makes us feel bad for taking it easy. This solstice is about re-programming our perspective and acknowledging that rest is productive because after all, we can’t keep holding ourselves to such high expectations when we are running on low battery. It is time to re-charge! And the more we do so intentionally, the more rested we will actually be and the more ready we will be to take on the new year.

The solstices represent the polarities and the dualities that define our human experience. It shows us the power of entirety and that these energetic shifts are integral to natures flow and our own. These cycles are natural and should be embraced rather than resisted and hopefully, our own awareness and intention can help shift societies perspectives and expectations of ourselves and each other at this sacred time of year.

Below I have selected the colors and prints that will help us embody this introspective and transformational energy so that we may emerge from our cocoons in the new year with renewed passion, inspiration and purpose.

Onyx

Blend in with the longest night of the year. Embrace your shadow but make it sexy. And sustainable. Plus the reverse sides of the tops and swimsuits are white, further expressing the dualities that the solstice represents.

Summit

The delicate white lines that gently grace this print perfectly mirror the beginning of Suns gentle ascent. With the longest night of the year behind us, so we begin our own ascent to the summit of the Suns path, the Summer solstice!

Lineage

Earlier when I mentioned duality, I had both the Lineage and Summit prints pictured in my head as they are opposites. However if there is anything that the solstice teaches us it’s that contrasting colors are also complimentary. The dualities of the world can not only coexist together, but they are elevated because of their complimentary differences.

Zephyr

Like a snake shedding its skin, the solstice marks that regenerative capability, leaving behind the old to welcome the new, just like the celestial serpent that adorns this best-selling print.

Raina

A bold expression of this cyclical duality, the Raina print expresses the explosiveness that comes from a period of true rest. The path of least resistance is rewarded with focused ambition and the stamina to see your goals through.

Luna

Throughout the long winter nights, it is the moon who guides us and comforts us. She is a gentle and nurturing beacon in the sky and similarly to the Lineage print, the peak of white in this print symbolizes the shift from the darkest part of the year, to the lightest.

May the Winter Solstice allow us to slow down and take the much needed rest we need. May it nurture us and provide the space and darkness we need to really turn our attentions inward. And may it deepen our roots so that we may grow and blossom more fully, when that time comes. So It Is.
