Fruit Smoothies and Festival Day Dreams

With Spring in full bloom and Festival season at its peak, it is gettin’ hot out there. Rising temperatures mean it’s time to start prepping your produce! Between festival plans and trying to simultaneously live out your “adult life” there’s no time to cook and throwing away food over being too busy is always pretty heart wrenching. Here to save our dancin’ asses are our favorite tropical fruits and chia seeds!

A good sized fruit smoothie can make the perfect healthy breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack or dessert.  In an array of colors and delicious flavors, fruit will swoop in to save the day (as long as you did the simple prep work). Cutting up your fruit and storing it in the freezer means you’ll ALWAYS be only 5 minutes away from having a mouth watering, frozen, tropical treat! Adding a layer of chia seed pudding only adds to the nutritional value of your smoothie. One ounce of chia seeds contains 11 grams of Fiber, 4 grams of Protein, and 9 grams of good fat!

For the fruit portion, all you’ll need is to prep and stash your favorite fruits in the freezer and to keep a jug of non dairy milk on hand.  The main ingredient to the creamiest of smoothies has GOT to be frozen bananas. The texture they create when blended frozen is unlike any other fruit. Once you’ve plopped at least half a frozen naner into the blender you can pretty much go ham with all your top fruit picks, add some non dairy milk and blend until you reach your desired consistency.

For the chia seed layer, every ¼ cup of seeds needs 1 cup of non dairy milk. You simply mix the two in a container, stir for 30 seconds and place in the refrigerator. Soaked seeds last up to 5 days so making one big batch at the start of a new week or week-end, is a great idea.

For the smoothie photographed, I used one layer of chia seed pudding, one layer of banana–dragon fruit smoothie, and one layer of banana-mango-pineapple smoothie. To top it off, I added a chunk of frozen pineapple, raspberries, and a decorative flower.

Stay breezy in all your colorful festivities and Never underestimate the power of frozen fruit! ☺
