Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga, is all about breakfast. It is believed that the way you start your day is the way you will feel for the rest of the day. For example, if you hastily eat a bagel on your way to the office, you will feel unsettled and rushed for the rest of the day, making you more likely to mindlessly eat.

Meatless Monday Recipe: Holiday Brownies

PSA: these brownies may be vegan but by no means are they health food. Don’t be fooled by the black beans and flax seed these babies will certainly satisfy your sweet tooth. The coconut milk and oil make them dense and gooey. I go for fudgey over cakey when it comes to brownies and this recipe really highlights that. I was in the mood for something extra decadent that could pass the holiday party test so I whipped up a coconut cream frosting. The frosting is where the guilty pleasure aspect of this dessert really comes into play. Four cups of powdered sugar may seem like an awful lot but it’s what makes the icing thick and fluffy. To be fair, whole wheat pastry flour, flax seed, and black beans do lend a fair amount of fiber to these which balances the heath scale just a little.

As a small business owner, I am constantly overwhelmed by the amount of support and resources you can find for your brand on social media. Instagram has proven to been an incredible resource in helping to unite an amazing #girlgang of women in business. Ashley is an incredible creatress, energy worker & modern day medicine woman who spends her days surrounded in nature in her cabin in Texan hill country, creating and manifesting. She can be found picking wildflowers & watching the moonrise at dusk. Her vision is to spread love & light through the work by helping others awaken to their inner divinity. The first time I put on one of Crystal Tribe's energy-infused necklaces, I knew that Ashley was tuned in to a special kind of magic, and had to know more!

Question: What is more quintessentially vegan than a tofu scramble? Answer: Nothing. This Monday I’m sharing my favorite twist on a veg staple. When I was a kid I loved to smush my scrambled eggs between my two pieces of buttered toast and eat it like a sandwich. Once I kicked animal products to the curb, I was determined to find a new breakfast favorite. Well, after lots of trial and error and dollops of guacamole I developed the perfect substitution. This recipe is great because you can do it as a hearty breakfast sandwich or deconstruct it for avocado toast and have the tofu scramble on the side. More of a light breakfast type of gal? No problem, this guy is filling enough to have as breakfast for dinner with a side of your favorite fakin’ bacon.

Woman Crush Wednesday with Charmaine Olivia

Earlier this week I was thrilled to sit down with one of my all-time favorite artists. As a painter myself, I find so much inspiration in other female painters. Amongst the painters I admire, Southern California based Charmaine Olivia has been a major woman crush of mine for a long time. Charmaine's oil paintings bring to life a deep exploration of the human spirit, with vibrant Lisa Frank color and a mystical, psychedelic girl gaze. Her work evokes a hypnotic blend of impressionism and surrealism. At 28, she has acheived what so many young artists dream of– collaborating and working with clients ranging from Lady Gaga to Nylon Magazine, Burton and Vans. I got to learn more about the magical Charmaine and the ins and outs of what she is inspired by, how her career came to fruition, and her creative plans for the future.

Women Crush Wednesday with Alexandra Carson

Sometimes, we find ourselves day dreaming of being at the top of a lush, green mountain or swimming in crystal clear water with sea turtles. Most people get back to whatever they were doing and take a mental note to book a vacation soon. Alexandra Carson (@alexandra_carson), however took that leap of faith we’ve all dreamt of at some point or another. With some money she saved up, she and her fiance Michael left their home in California, and they have been traveling the world ever since. She’s a modern day vagabond with the Southern California babe vibe. Her adventures have taken her to Florence, Thailand, Indonesia and the small French Polynesian island of Mo’orea. No matter where in the world she may be, Alex always takes the time to get centered on her yoga mat and let the day slip away from her for a bit.
